Events around the anniversary of the foundation of the Union of Lublin and celebrations of the 600. anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald

The Lublin associations „Lubelskie Stowarzyszenie Turystyki Kulturowej 'Zachód-Wschód'“ (Lublin Association to promote the cultural tourism „East-West“) and „Organizacja Turystyczna 'Szlak Jagiellonski“ (Tourism Organisation „Routes of the Jagiellons“) organize touristical excursions, conferences and the annual meetings of their associations every year during the anniversary of the foundation of the Union of Lublin (1st of July). These events gain a special character through the 600. anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald which takes place in 2010.

From 25th of June till 8th of July 2010 the public touristical excursion „travelling to the past“ takes place. It leads from Lublin through Sandomierz - Nowy Korczyn - Kosice - Wawrzeńczyce - Igołomia – Krakow and from there through Podolany - Holy Cross back to Lublin.

Within this frame several theme-related conferences take place between 30th of June till 3rd of July in Lublin:

30th of June:
general assembly of the organisation for tourism „Route of the Jagiellons“

01st of July (Day of the Union of Lublin):
International Conference "The European Tourism between East and West". Main focuses are the position of the Route of the Jagiellons in the network „VIA REGIA – Major Cultural Route of the Council of Europe“, the chances to become acknowledged as UNESCO World Heritage and the meaning of cooperation of cities and comunes along the Route of the Jagiellons for the applications as European Cultural Capital 2016. Furthermore the development of touristical relations between Poland, Lithuania and Belarus are a main theme. All three countries are connected through the Route of the Jagiellons and see it as potential to develope further new forms of cooperation.

02nd of July:
2nd part: International Conference "The European Tourism between East and West".

03rd of July:
Day of meetings between East and West
final meeting at the St. Nicolas Church in Lublin,
Performance – “Traders arrive the Czwartek Hill”

On 4th of July the second part of the „Travelling to the Past“ begins from Lublin through Ostrow Lubelski - Parczew - Przewłoka -Piszczac - Vilnius and back through Bielsk Podlaski - Melnik - Miedzyrzec Podlaski back to Lublin.

The excursion reminds pathes that have been used by King Władysław II. Jagiełło on his way to the battlefield and includes places, buildings and other sights that are connected with the events 600 years ago. Speeches, concerts, performances and exhibitions wait for the visitors at the different locations.
